Gao Yan

Holding B.Arch from Tsinghua University Beijing and M.Arch from Design Research Laboratory of Architectural Association London, Yan Gao is currently practicing in London as the monitor of Research on Emergent Algorithmic Modeling group of Marks Barfield Architects. In the recent completed high profile project, Kew Tree Top Walkway and Rhizotron, Yan was the key designer to deliver the complex project by using Digital Project, Gehry Technology. Apart from the strength on cutting edge parametric design knowledge and skills, Yan also engages in education and publication. He has been teaching at AA Summer School in Shanghai and invited as the external consultant of AA DRL 2007. He is one of oversea editors for Chinese magazine – ‘World Architecture’. As one of the co-founders of Network of Design Emergence, Yan commits himself to the advanced computational techniques to tackle the practical issues including sustainability, society dynamic and cultural multiplicity. Most importantly, as a young Chinese architect with insight in the wisdom of both the western and the eastern, Yan is keen to contribute himself to improve the domestic architectural education and professional standard by merging the advantages of the east and the west.
