    cdr_Animation_09_091125_Final-03

    CDR Animation Showreel 2009
    - After the Effects: the complex relationship between talents and London animation industry

Curated and produced by the Chinese Designers’ Region (CDR), “CDR Animation Showreel 2009” is a collection of 13 animated short films and promos, which were early animation works created by CDR animation directors. Showcased at the Asian Youth Animation & Comic Competition in China this summer, the showreel is being shown for the first time to audiences in London.  Led by Ann Xiao and EB Hu, CDR has always been dedicated to the field of animation. We are delighted to invite you to the special screening and talks “After the Effects”.

5 CDR animation directors will discuss their experiences and thoughts: “What does the animation industry currently look for in its creative workforce?”; “What must a student do to become a director?”. Our special critic is Christian Hogue, founder and producer of Lost in Space and mentor to two CDR animation directors Ann and Oway. Well-known as having a special eye for spotting raw talents and supporting them to success in the industry, Christian is invited to a roundtable discussion with the directors about the complex relationships between the emerging talents and the existing industry. The event will be held in the studio of HuntHaggarty, which is a branding strategy company whose clients include Harrods, Dell and Motorola. Recently HuntHaggarty just opened its Hongkong studio and published an outstanding book of ‘China’s Creative Voice’ about Chinese youth culture.

    Artist’s Statement:
    —————————————
    STRANGE/FAMILIAR

    One
A life lived in hurry does not allow us to appreciate the many things around us; I choose to slow down my path and take a second look at things. I see devoting attentiveness to the everyday as the basis of my work; they reveal significance within what seems to be insignificant everyday objects and situations.

The seemingly extraordinary of our life can come from something quite ordinary. Therefore the strange can come from things that we are familiar with; they come along hand-in-hand, and exist in a contradictory structure that is simultaneously familiar and strange.
